Completed by Nicholas J M Simpson

on April 20, 2024

What is your name?

Nick Simpson

Tell us more about yourself.

I am the only candidate for clerk of Superior Court with wide-ranging experience in the Georgia criminal justice system as a former judicial aide at the Fulton County Superior Court, and as a former chief operations officer of the Cobb County Superior Court Clerk’s office. I seek to prepare the office to meet the demands of the future. It is important that the next clerk rises to the challenges caused by explosive population growth, cybersecurity attacks, the proliferation of deed fraud, and agency budgetary constraints.

Cobb County Clerk of Superior Court

What is your job/occupation?

Founder/Principal at njs2133, LLC

What city/neighborhood do you live in?

Acworth

Is this your first time running for office?

No

What experiences have best prepared you to hold elected office?

My experience at the Fulton Superior Court afforded me the opportunity to gain the institutional knowledge and people skills necessary to maneuver the inner workings of the Georgia justice system. I also worked in New York State government as an aide to the Senate President, and later worked in New York City government where I managed a public funding pipeline for 100 citywide capital projects totaling $50 million dollars. I am a former chief operations officer of the Cobb Superior Court Clerk's Office, where I was charged with supervising the collection of over $70 million dollars in revenue benefiting the state and Cobb County.

What would be your top priority upon winning office?

We need a clerk that can perform his/her duties diligently and competently with the peoples’ interests in mind. We need a clerk that will clear the court’s unnecessary indexing backlog, implement property fraud and cybersecurity measures, and end the practice of receiving passport fees as personal income. If given the opportunity, I will restore the integrity of our clerk’s office.

What actions would you take to enhance government transparency and trust in government?

I will submit all agency passport revenue to the Cobb County general fund and work with the Cobb Board of Commissioners to allocate funding for upgrades to technological infrastructure and other necessary improvements to increase efficiency and enhance the user experience for the benefit of the bench, bar and the public.

Do you believe Georgia elections are secure and what additional security measures can be taken?

I believe Georgia elections are secure.

What is government's responsibility to ensure affordable housing?

N/A

Do you believe public access to public records is sufficient in your jurisdiction and, if not, what steps do you support to remedy that?

I believe that public access to public records as it to relates to the Superior Court Clerk's Office is sufficient. Due to growing incidents of deed fraud, I believe that access to public real estate records should be restricted and only accessible to users that allow verification of their identity.
